Наверное все уже слышали про газпроммонстра, которого хотят соорудить там, превратив Санкт-Петербург из культурной столицы в столицу безкультурья.
Таким образом, вношу свой микровклад в благое дело сохранения Питера. Нам и Москвы убитой хватает. Хоть бы Питер в покое оставили.

my question: ...Doesn't a big company like Gazprom keep many people employed and therefore clothed and fed (and buying stuff)? what about the employment angle?

You are right, I beleive Gazprom hires many people, and I hope they (these people) are satisfied with their payment and job environment.This is not the question someone say against of. People disagree with politics and Gazprom in their wish to destroy the architecture and views and history and etc of StP.
We agree if they build 300 m Gazprom Tower but not in the City, not in the historical centre of Saint-Petersbug
